The tower was first lit in 1895 and is still an aid to navigation. Its light shows two white flashes every 10 seconds. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The red and white lighthouse on the west shore of Round Island, facing Mackinac Island across the ferry channel, was abandoned in 1947 and relit as a private light in 1996.

How to see it

Above water and inside the horizon from Windermere Point, Mackinac Island, 1.0 km (0.6 mi) away, so on a clear day it can be seen from there, and CoastFinder puts a label on it.

On the website for now. Michigan's lighthouses are in the web viewer first, and they are coming to the CoastFinder app, which covers the North Carolina coast today. Follow @coastfinderapp to hear when Michigan arrives.
