The tower was first lit in 1869 and is still an aid to navigation. Its light shows one white flash every 4 seconds, seen up to 13 nautical miles out. A cream brick tower and house west of Mackinaw City, dark from 1906 until Emmet County restored it and relit it as a private light in 2009; it is open to visitors in season.

How to see it

Above water and inside the horizon from Headlands, Mackinaw City, 590 m (1,934 ft) away, so on a clear day it can be seen from there, and CoastFinder puts a label on it.

On the website for now. Michigan's lighthouses are in the web viewer first, and they are coming to the CoastFinder app, which covers the North Carolina coast today. Follow @coastfinderapp to hear when Michigan arrives.
