The tower was first lit in 1882 and no longer serves as a light for ships. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Best known for the lean an ice floe gave it in 1977, this iron caisson tower stands alone where Sharps Island has washed away, southwest of Tilghman Island; dark since 2010, it is seen from Black Walnut Point and from boats.

How to see it

Above water and inside the horizon from Black Walnut Point, Tilghman Island, 4.7 km (2.9 mi) away, so on a clear day it can be seen from there, and CoastFinder puts a label on it.

On the website for now. Maryland's lighthouses are in the web viewer first, and they are coming to the CoastFinder app, which covers the North Carolina coast today. Follow @coastfinderapp to hear when Maryland arrives.
