The tower was first lit in 1879 and no longer serves as a light for ships. The screw-pile cottage stood in Hooper Strait until 1966, when it was moved to the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels; it is the museum's showpiece on Navy Point.

How to see it

Above water and inside the horizon from Muskrat Park, St. Michaels, 395 m (1,295 ft) away, so on a clear day it can be seen from there, and CoastFinder puts a label on it.

On the website for now. Maryland's lighthouses are in the web viewer first, and they are coming to the CoastFinder app, which covers the North Carolina coast today. Follow @coastfinderapp to hear when Maryland arrives.
