The tower was first lit in 1925 and is still an aid to navigation. Its light shows a white light, on and off for equal times, every 6 seconds, seen up to 13 nautical miles out. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A square brick lighthouse at the end of the west breakwater at the mouth of the Grand River, now a private summer home; the breakwater can be walked from Headlands Beach State Park.

How to see it

Above water and inside the horizon from Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park, 1.1 km (0.7 mi) away, so on a clear day it can be seen from there, and CoastFinder puts a label on it.

On the website for now. Ohio's lighthouses are in the web viewer first, and they are coming to the CoastFinder app, which covers the North Carolina coast today. Follow @coastfinderapp to hear when Ohio arrives.
