The tower was first lit in 1836 and no longer serves as a light for ships. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Decommissioned in 1964, the tower is part of the Piney Point Lighthouse Museum and Historic Park on the lower Potomac, and visitors can climb it when the museum is open.

How to see it

Above water and inside the horizon from Piney Point Lighthouse Museum, 154 m (506 ft) away, so on a clear day it can be seen from there, and CoastFinder puts a label on it.

On the website for now. Maryland's lighthouses are in the web viewer first, and they are coming to the CoastFinder app, which covers the North Carolina coast today. Follow @coastfinderapp to hear when Maryland arrives.
