The tower was first lit in 1899 and is still an aid to navigation. Its light shows one red flash every 10 seconds, seen up to 17 nautical miles out. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A tall cylindrical tower with steel bracing, at the Coast Guard station by the Lake Michigan entrance of the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal, across from the red north pierhead light.

How to see it

Above water and inside the horizon from Portage Park, Sturgeon Bay Canal, 302 m (990 ft) away, so on a clear day it can be seen from there, and CoastFinder puts a label on it.

On the website for now. Wisconsin's lighthouses are in the web viewer first, and they are coming to the CoastFinder app, which covers the North Carolina coast today. Follow @coastfinderapp to hear when Wisconsin arrives.
