Bald Head Lighthouse

Old Baldy, the oldest lighthouse still standing in North Carolina, lit in 1817 to mark the mouth of the Cape Fear River. The octagonal brick tower, about 110 ft (34 m) tall under its mottled stucco, replaced an earlier 1794 light that was lost to erosion. Deactivated in 1935, it is kept by the Old Baldy Foundation as a museum, and can be climbed. It stands a short walk from the ferry landing on Bald Head Island.
