Lighthouse · Sandy Hook, New Jersey
Sandy Hook Lighthouse

The tower was first lit in 1764 and is still an aid to navigation. Its light shows a steady white light, seen up to 19 nautical miles out. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The oldest working lighthouse in the United States, it stands on the grounds of Fort Hancock in the Sandy Hook unit of Gateway National Recreation Area, now about a mile and a half from the tip of the hook as the sand has grown.
