The tower was first lit in 1883 and is still an aid to navigation. Its light shows one green flash every 6 seconds, seen up to 7 nautical miles out. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A sparkplug lighthouse on a reef in Upper New York Bay off Constable Hook, Bayonne, at the mouth of the Kill van Kull. It can be seen across the water from the Bayonne and Staten Island shores.

How to see it

Above water and inside the horizon from Coney Island Lighthouse, 10 km (6.2 mi) away, so on a clear day it can be seen from there, and CoastFinder puts a label on it.

On the website for now. New Jersey's lighthouses are in the web viewer first, and they are coming to the CoastFinder app, which covers the North Carolina coast today. Follow @coastfinderapp to hear when New Jersey arrives.
