The tower was first lit in 1908 and no longer serves as a light for ships. A slim steel tower on the hill south of Munising that once formed a range with the front light; the 2025 Light List no longer lists it.

How to see it

Above water and inside the horizon from Sand Point Beach, Pictured Rocks, 6.3 km (3.9 mi) away, so on a clear day it can be seen from there, and CoastFinder puts a label on it.

On the website for now. Michigan's lighthouses are in the web viewer first, and they are coming to the CoastFinder app, which covers the North Carolina coast today. Follow @coastfinderapp to hear when Michigan arrives.
