The tower was first lit in 1908 and is still an aid to navigation. Its light shows a steady white light, seen up to 12 nautical miles out. A white conical steel tower at the west edge of Munising beside M-28; it now works as a single sectored leading light, and the grounds are open while the tower is closed.

How to see it

Above water and inside the horizon from Sand Point Beach, Pictured Rocks, 6.0 km (3.7 mi) away, so on a clear day it can be seen from there, and CoastFinder puts a label on it.

On the website for now. Michigan's lighthouses are in the web viewer first, and they are coming to the CoastFinder app, which covers the North Carolina coast today. Follow @coastfinderapp to hear when Michigan arrives.
