The tower was first lit in 1833 and is still an aid to navigation. Its light shows one white flash every 6 seconds. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It stands on a 100-foot bluff at the tip of Elk Neck State Park, at the head of the bay, and volunteers open the tower for climbs on weekends.

How to see it

Above water and inside the horizon from Havre de Grace promenade, 12 km (7.5 mi) away, so on a clear day it can be seen from there, and CoastFinder puts a label on it.

On the website for now. Maryland's lighthouses are in the web viewer first, and they are coming to the CoastFinder app, which covers the North Carolina coast today. Follow @coastfinderapp to hear when Maryland arrives.
