The tower was first lit in 1825 and is still an aid to navigation. Its light is charted as Fl (4+3)W 16s. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The oldest lighthouse still standing in Maryland, on an island inside Aberdeen Proving Ground that is closed because of unexploded shells; the Army relit it in 2011, and it is seen only from the water.

How to see it

Above water and inside the horizon from North Point State Park, 16 km (10.0 mi) away, so on a clear day it can be seen from there, and CoastFinder puts a label on it.

On the website for now. Maryland's lighthouses are in the web viewer first, and they are coming to the CoastFinder app, which covers the North Carolina coast today. Follow @coastfinderapp to hear when Maryland arrives.
