These terms cover the CoastFinder website, including the web version, and the CoastFinder app. They are written to be read. By using either, you agree to them.
Not for navigation
CoastFinder is for looking at the water, not for navigating on it. It is not a substitute for official nautical charts, a chartplotter, local knowledge or a proper lookout. Do not use it to decide where to steer, where to anchor, or whether there is enough water to pass over something. Positions may be out, depths are estimates, the tide can differ from its prediction, and conditions change. If you are on the water, use the official charts and the instruments made for the job.
What you may do
The app. When you buy CoastFinder, you may use it for your own personal use on the devices the store allows, under the store's standard terms for apps. You may not resell it, redistribute it, or copy, decompile or reverse-engineer it, except as far as the law allows you to.
The website. The website and the web version are free to use. You may read them, link to them and share what you find. Please do not copy the site wholesale, scrape it in bulk, or use it in a way that disrupts it for others. Screenshots, the icon and the wordmark may be used in articles and reviews as described on the Press page.
No warranty
CoastFinder and its data are provided as they are, without warranty of any kind. We work to keep the data right, and every feature records where it came from, but it may be wrong, incomplete or out of date. Features move, wrecks break up, shoals shift, and charts are revised. We do not promise that the app or the website will be free of errors or always available.
Limitation of liability
As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of CoastFinder or its data, and our total liability to you for anything to do with CoastFinder is limited to the price you paid for the app. Some places do not allow limits like these; where they do not, the limit applies as far as it lawfully can. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have by law as a consumer.
Purchases and refunds
CoastFinder is sold through Apple's App Store, and through Google Play when an Android version is available. The purchase, billing, re-downloads and refunds are handled by the store under its own terms. For a refund, ask the store; the Support page explains how.
Third-party data
The charts, light lists, wreck records, reef data, tide predictions and map data in CoastFinder come from public sources and remain under their own licences. They are credited, with their licences, on the Data sources page and in the app.
Reports you send
If you report a problem with a feature, we may use what you send to check and correct the data. The Privacy Policy explains what a report contains and how it is handled.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, the date at the top changes with it. Continuing to use the app or the website after a change means you accept the new terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, USA.
