The tower was first lit in 1872 and is still an aid to navigation. Its light shows one red flash every 4 seconds, seen up to 7 nautical miles out. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A red steel tower at the end of the short pier at the mouth of the Milwaukee River, at the end of East Erie Street; the pier can be walked but the tower is closed.

How to see it

Above water and inside the horizon from Erie Street Plaza, Milwaukee, 534 m (1,753 ft) away, so on a clear day it can be seen from there, and CoastFinder puts a label on it.

On the website for now. Wisconsin's lighthouses are in the web viewer first, and they are coming to the CoastFinder app, which covers the North Carolina coast today. Follow @coastfinderapp to hear when Wisconsin arrives.
