The tower was first lit in 1880 and is still an aid to navigation. Its light shows one white flash every 20 seconds, seen up to 16 nautical miles out. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. One of the tallest lighthouses on the Great Lakes, on Lighthouse Road in the village of Wind Point north of Racine; the grounds beside Shoop Park are open and the tower opens on set dates.

How to see it

Above water and inside the horizon from Zoo Beach, Racine, 3.8 km (2.4 mi) away, so on a clear day it can be seen from there, and CoastFinder puts a label on it.

On the website for now. Wisconsin's lighthouses are in the web viewer first, and they are coming to the CoastFinder app, which covers the North Carolina coast today. Follow @coastfinderapp to hear when Wisconsin arrives.
