The tower was first lit in 1870 and is still an aid to navigation. Its light shows a steady white light, seen up to 17 nautical miles out. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The 89-foot steel-clad brick tower on a small island north of Baileys Harbor, reached on foot by a causeway, is run as a museum by the Door County Maritime Museum.

How to see it

Above water and inside the horizon from Toft Point, 3.0 km (1.9 mi) away, so on a clear day it can be seen from there, and CoastFinder puts a label on it.

On the website for now. Wisconsin's lighthouses are in the web viewer first, and they are coming to the CoastFinder app, which covers the North Carolina coast today. Follow @coastfinderapp to hear when Wisconsin arrives.
