The tower was first lit in 1871 and no longer serves as a light for ships. The wooden lighthouse that stood on Colchester Reef was moved in 1952 to the Shelburne Museum, where it is open as an exhibit; a decorative light shows in it.

How to see it

Above water and inside the horizon from Burlington Fishing Pier, 12 km (7.3 mi) away, so on a clear day it can be seen from there, and CoastFinder puts a label on it.

On the website for now. Vermont's lighthouses are in the web viewer first, and they are coming to the CoastFinder app, which covers the North Carolina coast today. Follow @coastfinderapp to hear when Vermont arrives.
