Shipwreck · Nags Head, North Carolina
Kyzickes
A tanker (ex-Paraguay) that broke apart in a storm on 4 December 1927 off Kill Devil Hills. Two years later the freighter Carl Gerhard ran onto the same spot, and together the two hulls form the 'Triangle Wrecks', a snorkel-depth site just off the beach in about 20 ft (6 m). The NOAA sanctuary page prints a position that contradicts itself (its degrees-minutes-seconds and decimal forms differ by three minutes of latitude) and that plots 5.7 km north of the Kill Devil Hills milepost 7 the same page describes. The position shown follows the description: about 200 yards off the beach at milepost 7.
