Shipwreck · Nags Head, North Carolina

Carl Gerhard

A Swedish freighter that ran aground in a gale on 23 September 1929, coming to rest across the wreck of the tanker Kyzickes off Kill Devil Hills. The stranded ship was a tourist attraction for years before the sea took it. Its remains form part of the shallow 'Triangle Wrecks' in about 15 ft (5 m). The NOAA sanctuary page prints the same self-contradictory position as for Kyzikes, 5.7 km north of where its text places the wreck. The position shown follows the description.
