The tower was first lit in 1840 and no longer serves as a light for ships. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A stone and brick tower with its keeper's cottage, dark since the new lighthouse a mile north replaced it in 1871; both are a museum run by the Presque Isle Township Museum Society.

How to see it

Above water and inside the horizon from North Bay Beach Park, Presque Isle, 1.0 km (0.6 mi) away, so on a clear day it can be seen from there, and CoastFinder puts a label on it.

On the website for now. Michigan's lighthouses are in the web viewer first, and they are coming to the CoastFinder app, which covers the North Carolina coast today. Follow @coastfinderapp to hear when Michigan arrives.
