The tower was first lit in 1867 and is still an aid to navigation. Its light shows a steady white light, seen up to 9 nautical miles out. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The black-and-white banded tower stands in the dunes of Ludington State Park, a walk of about 1.8 miles from the park road, with tours in season.

How to see it

Above water and inside the horizon from Stearns Park, Ludington, 12 km (7.4 mi) away, so on a clear day it can be seen from there, and CoastFinder puts a label on it.

On the website for now. Michigan's lighthouses are in the web viewer first, and they are coming to the CoastFinder app, which covers the North Carolina coast today. Follow @coastfinderapp to hear when Michigan arrives.
