The tower was first lit in 1912 and is still an aid to navigation. Its light shows a steady white light, seen up to 16 nautical miles out. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A white steel pyramid raised on a two-story base at the end of Frankfort's north breakwater, reached on foot from the beach.

How to see it

Above water and inside the horizon from Frankfort Beach, 559 m (1,832 ft) away, so on a clear day it can be seen from there, and CoastFinder puts a label on it.

On the website for now. Michigan's lighthouses are in the web viewer first, and they are coming to the CoastFinder app, which covers the North Carolina coast today. Follow @coastfinderapp to hear when Michigan arrives.
