The tower was first lit in 1871 and is still an aid to navigation. Its light shows white and red in turn every 20 seconds, seen up to 23 nautical miles out. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The red brick lighthouse on the rocks at the entrance to Eagle Harbor is run as a museum by the Keweenaw County Historical Society, with maritime exhibits in the old fog signal building.

How to see it

Above water and inside the horizon from Koop-Black Cove Park, Eagle Harbor, 780 m (2,560 ft) away, so on a clear day it can be seen from there, and CoastFinder puts a label on it.

On the website for now. Michigan's lighthouses are in the web viewer first, and they are coming to the CoastFinder app, which covers the North Carolina coast today. Follow @coastfinderapp to hear when Michigan arrives.
