The tower, first lit in 1866, is dark now. The working light, one green flash every 6 seconds, stands nearby, about 20 m away. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The lighthouse on the point across the harbor from town is part of Fort Wilkins Historic State Park, reached by tour boat in summer; its light moved to the steel tower beside it in 1933.

How to see it

Above water and inside the horizon from Fanny Hooe Creek, Fort Wilkins, 897 m (2,943 ft) away, so on a clear day it can be seen from there, and CoastFinder puts a label on it.

On the website for now. Michigan's lighthouses are in the web viewer first, and they are coming to the CoastFinder app, which covers the North Carolina coast today. Follow @coastfinderapp to hear when Michigan arrives.
