The tower was first lit in 1858 and no longer serves as a light for ships. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The lighthouse in Washington Park, dark since its lantern moved to the east pier in 1904, is now the Old Lighthouse Museum, open most afternoons except in winter.

How to see it

Above water and inside the horizon from Washington Park Beach, Michigan City, 772 m (2,532 ft) away, so on a clear day it can be seen from there, and CoastFinder puts a label on it.

On the website for now. Indiana's lighthouses are in the web viewer first, and they are coming to the CoastFinder app, which covers the North Carolina coast today. Follow @coastfinderapp to hear when Indiana arrives.
