The tower was first lit in 1875 and is still an aid to navigation. Its light shows a steady white light with a brighter flash every 30 seconds. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Built to be taken apart, it was moved a mile inland in 1889; it stands in Hunting Island State Park and is open to climb.

How to see it

Above water and inside the horizon from Hunting Island State Park beach, 152 m (498 ft) away, so on a clear day it can be seen from there, and CoastFinder puts a label on it.

On the website for now. South Carolina's lighthouses are in the web viewer first, and they are coming to the CoastFinder app, which covers the North Carolina coast today. Follow @coastfinderapp to hear when South Carolina arrives.
