Lighthouse · Nags Head, North Carolina

Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse (replica)

A 2004 replica of the 1877 screw-pile cottage lighthouse that marked the southern entrance to Croatan Sound until it was decommissioned in 1955 and lost during an attempt to move it ashore. The white square cottage sits on pilings at the end of a boardwalk on the Manteo waterfront and houses a small exhibit run by the North Carolina Maritime Museum. It shows a private light rather than a charted aid.
