Shipwreck · Crystal Coast, North Carolina

W.E. Hutton

A tanker torpedoed by U-124 on 18 March 1942 off Cape Lookout, in the same night's attack that sank the Papoose. Her name and the Papoose's have long been attached to each other's wrecks; the hull charted here, in shallower water nearer the beach, is thought to be the Papoose. A year later the Brazilian freighter Suloide struck this wreck and sank beside it.
