Cape Lookout Shoals

The sand spit that runs nearly 10 nautical miles south-southeast from Cape Lookout Point, charted with depths of a few feet and heavy breakers. Ships rounding the cape stand well outside the lighted buoy that marks its tip; the shoal has claimed dozens of vessels since colonial times.
