The tower was first lit in 1820 and is still an aid to navigation. Its light shows one white flash every 45 seconds. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Restored and relit in 1998, the red and white tower stands on Sapelo Island, reached by the state ferry from Meridian.

How to see it

Above water and inside the horizon from Sapelo Island, by the lighthouse, 249 m (818 ft) away, so on a clear day it can be seen from there, and CoastFinder puts a label on it.

On the website for now. Georgia's lighthouses are in the web viewer first, and they are coming to the CoastFinder app, which covers the North Carolina coast today. Follow @coastfinderapp to hear when Georgia arrives.
