Shipwreck · Miami, Florida

Half Moon

Built at Kiel in 1908 as the German racing yacht Germania. Seized in England in 1914, she later came to Miami, was renamed Half Moon and served as a floating saloon, and was wrecked in 1930 on a shoal just outside Bear Cut off Key Biscayne. Her hull lies in 8 to 10 ft of water, the top only 3 to 4 ft (1 m) down: a snorkel or shallow dive by boat, best at high slack tide. A Florida Underwater Archaeological Preserve, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Don’t anchor on the site, and take nothing.
